A funny expression of myself is that 'Patriotism' is like 'Matriotism'. It has nothing to do with other countries, Patternal and Maternal relationship. One who respects his on father, does not mean that he dislike others father. Same is the word 'Patriotism', respect to one's own birth country (paternal). There are the right of property rules, maternal and paternal are distinctive for the generation. Like this. For example, Indians love their country as 'Mother' - Their policy since childhood and education is that 'mother and mother country are precious than the heaven'. Still patriotism is the word used by Indians. Whether it is country or city or village or society - patriotism is derived from the paternal love. Lord Jesus praised 'Father' onw who loves the son, where great Rishis of India praise 'Mother' who loves the son. Which is more bearable for a son - 'paternal love or maternal love' If you mean a word for "one's love and affection towards his city", let us create and apply a word.
then if 'patriotism' people feel in the rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney, that their city is better than the other, it is quite natural that if "one say that my father is greater than your father" - For matured, yours is a silly question and their fiting is a part of patriotism.
References :
Unknown works of Prof. M. Varma,

I'm not sure of any particular words. I might try sayings something like, "local pride" or "community citizenship".
